Acoustic research
DetailsBuilding acoustics and sound insulation
Building acoustics and sound insulation are an important focus of the building research of the IAF. With the Centre for Building Physics in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, it has access to in the university sector unique building acoustic testing and research facilities, which enable the current fields of work to be expanded and intensified.
On one hand, the research group raises third-party funds from national funding programmes, on the other hand it also works on direct projects of companies and associations of the building materials industry. The Building Acoustics Research Group is represented by active participation in all major standardisation committees for building noise control at German and international level. In addition, it pursues a professional exchange in the field of building acoustics with other institutes in Germany as well as abroad and maintains close relations with the leading institutions at European level.
Heat and moisture protection
Research in the field of thermal and moisture protection is oriented towards current issues from the field. The focus of research is on the development of innovative building materials and component systems. Current main topics are the optimization of membrane and window constructions for the energetic renovation of buildings. Furthermore, topics such as the optimization of insulation materials with regard to heat and moisture transport (vacuum insulation panels, capillary-active internal insulation, aerogels, etc.) as well as the use of phase change materials for passive room cooling are also being worked on.
The research group, headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Beck, has many years of experience in project work and excellent measuring facilities in the laboratories of thermal building physics at the HFT Stuttgart.
