Graduate School

The Graduate School at Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences is an academic institution that was founded in November 2023 as part of the HIRE research project. All doctoral candidates who pursue their doctorate in cooperation with HFT Stuttgart are automatically part of the Graduate School and benefit from both supervision by the university's professors and a qualification offer tailored specifically to their needs.

Our doctoral candidates pursue their doctorate through the Promotionsverband Baden-Württemberg and are supervised throughout the duration of their doctorate at HFT Stuttgart. In addition to creating optimal conditions for doctorate, the Graduate School aims to train and retain academic staff. It also supports doctoral candidates in their professional development for an academic career, whether as a researcher, teacher or for a "career path" to becoming a professor. It also helps doctoral candidates to find their way into fields of work outside of research, such as business.

The Graduate School supports doctoral candidates and their first supervisors throughout the entire doctoral process. This includes the provision of important information and news on the subject of doctoral studies or the creation of formal framework conditions and needs-orientated structures. These include:

  • Thesis committee meetings between main and second supervisors, doctoral candidates and the Graduate School
  • Doctoral candidates workshop: To present your own research project to other doctoral candidates
  • Qualification program: Interdisciplinary and subject-oriented training content is offered in coordination with the offer of the Promotionsverband BW
  • An annual summer school is organized as part of the HIRE graduate research training group
  • Am Tag der Forschung are doctoral candidates and their research achievements honored
  • Contact point for formal processes, such as the "submission of the application for acceptance" to the Promotionsverband BW
  • Advisory on preparing the research proposal
  • Career advice
  • Funding issues
  • and much more.

The Graduate School is based on three pillars: "doctoral process, qualification and career advancement".
