The Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences is a member of the "Familie in der Hochschule e.V." (Family in the University) and has thus committed itself to the standards laid down in the association for the compatibility of family tasks with studies, teaching, research and science-supporting activities. The association currently has over 100 member institutions: Universities, university-related institutions and research facilities from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The HFT Stuttgart would like to demonstrate its awareness of its social responsibility as a place of education and living: a place where the compatibility of studies, work and science with family responsibilities is lived and taken for granted.

The HFT Stuttgart sees itself as a family-friendly institution that wants to enable both employees and students to combine family work with studies and career. This is done by listening to and taking into account the needs of university members with family obligations and by striving for the best possible balance between work, study and family concerns.

Study and family

The Studierendenwerk Stuttgart is responsible for childcare places for students. It currently has eight facilities in Stuttgart, Esslingen and Ludwigsburg. For children aged between six months and six years. The city of Stuttgart also offers further childcare facilities.

Important: The waiting lists for children under 3 years are very long! It is essential that you register during pregnancy. Cancellations can still be made if necessary. Even if you are on a waiting list, it is advisable to register again and again at the facilities. If your own income is low, the youth welfare office will pay the fees for the day care centre or kindergarten. It is usually possible to visit a childcare facility on site before you register there.

Action "Mensa-Kids": In all refectories of all student unions in Baden-Württemberg, children of students up to their 11th birthday may eat free of charge. This is a campaign of the Ministry of Science. In the refectories I and II in Stuttgart and the Ludwigsburg refectory, parents and children first go to the information point and register by showing their student ID. They then receive a Mensa-Kids card for their child. At the other refectories in Stuttgart, Esslingen and Göppingen, where there is no Info-Point, registration is done directly by the refectory staff. Further information can be obtained from the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart.

Support from care guides

Caring responsibilities often come unexpectedly and bring profound changes for everyone involved. This is not always easy to manage. In addition, there are many unanswered questions to which answers need to be found.

HFT Stuttgart would therefore like to offer all employees (professors and staff) and all students a first point of contact should a care situation arise. Information, advice and help are then quickly in demand.

We, the HFT Care Guides, are the first point of contact in such cases. We offer quick initial orientation in the "care jungle" and "guide" you to the specific specialist advice and contact points on site. In addition, we support you with information on central and internal services and provide you with information material.

You can find further information in our internal Moodle course "Studying and nursing/career and nursing" (registration required).
