Fundamentals of Design | 2nd Semester | Summer Semester 2018
On April 11th 2016, the Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, met with representatives of the Venetian Jewish communities and approved a document that considers all of Venice – streets, squares and houses – as a place of citizens. Indeed, traditional Jewish law prohibits the movement of objects between private and public spaces during and after holidays. Based on the unique structure and history of the city, the official recognition of Venice as "one house" removes the boundaries between private and public and allows believing Jews to move freely even on these days.
As part of the excursion week 2018, 50 students in the third semester of the Bachelor degree program in interior architecture analyzed a campo each as one of the living rooms of the House of Venice and documented spatial peculiarities and qualities in the form of freehand drawings, photographs and architectural descriptions. In reference to the book "Auftritte Scenes" by Alban Janson and Thorsten Bürklin, the model interpretation of the campi deliberately dispenses with architectural details and focuses on the shape, the access and the scenic effect of these stages in the Venetian urban fabric.

Whoever enters the interior of this city never knows what he will see or by whom he will be seen in the next moment. No sooner does anyone appear than they have already left the stage through another exit. These short expositions are of an almost theatrical obscenity and at the same time have something of a conspiracy about them, in which one is included without being asked or having consented.
The entire city can be considered as one large house.
