Esslingen am Neckar - a city known for its medieval old town and its important industrial past, particularly in mechanical and electrical engineering. In the Pliensauvorstadt district, where traces of this history are still clearly recognisable, a forward-looking, sustainable urban quarter is being created.

A formerly huge industrial and office building, which over the years has grown into a cohesive complex through numerous extensions, has been converted and extended into five independent apartment blocks. The existing structures were utilised to create flexible and innovative living layouts that meet the needs of different lifestyles.

The masterplan is based on an environmentally friendly concept in which only the absolutely necessary areas for roads are retained, supplemented by a continuous network of cycle paths. The remaining areas will be unsealed and extensively greened, including a central city park that will serve as a recreational space for both the neighbourhood and the surrounding residential areas. This will create lively, natural open spaces that will benefit pedestrians and cyclists alike. This sustainable neighbourhood not only offers contemporary living space, but also increases the quality of life and brings the entire Pliensauvorstadt district back to life.

Make do with Now - make 5 with 1
