Basics of design I The public toilet I dreamed of I 1st semester I Winter semester 2024/25

Public toilets are quiet little places that everyone needs from time to time but nobody really likes. A place where nobody really wants to go because it could be detrimental to their well-being. What's more, there are far too few of them. They are rare and rarely signposted. If you find one, it is often dirty, without paper, without soap. Or they cost money. This also excludes people. A situation that says a lot about our society.

The subject "Fundamentals of Design" takes this circumstance as an opportunity to imagine an alternative design for such a place: A place that is clearly visible in the urban space, invites people in and turns hardship into a joyful experience. Building on this small experimental design, design skills are playfully honed, from concept development, drawing conventions and plan graphics to spatial representation and modelling.

Supervised by Prof. Monika Joos-Keller and Deputy Prof. Florian Bengert.
