Design IP3 | Katharina Schaff, Carolin Schwartz & Louisa Taugerbeck | 4th semester | Summer semester 2024

The Studi-Wave was created as part of IP3 Steel Construction. The task was to design a temporary pavilion that offers both exhibition and
meeting space. The focus here is particularly on the building's ability to be assembled and dismantled. Although the Studi-Wave is initially located between Building 1 and Building 5 of the HFT Stuttgart, it can also quickly change location and be used as a travelling pavilion.

In terms of ease of assembly and disassembly, the protective shell is a shell structure made up of metal rods and the associated connecting nodes. This is then covered with translucent membrane segments.

With this striking design language, the Studi-Wave creates a long-distance effect that enhances the surroundings in the long term. The previously unused space between the two university buildings is transformed into an inviting meeting place for HFT Stuttgart students and other architecture enthusiasts. The façade, glazed on three sides, opens up the building towards Building 1 and 3, thus also activating the building's exterior space.

Inside the Studi-Wave, there are cubes with serving space utilisation; accordingly, toilets, a café kitchen, storage and an office are housed here. The cubes sit on a rail system and can – for example – be pushed aside for a larger event. To make this possible, the floor consists of individually removable rammed earth cassettes that can be inserted and moved as required in a close-meshed grid.

The student research project was supervised by Robert Brixner.
