Design 2 | Maurin Benz | 2nd semester | summer semester 2020
In Stuttgart's Ostheim district, on the site of the former SSB tram depot, a rehearsal room centre is to be built which will offer young talents space for their music as well as an opportunity to network and professionalise. It is intended to strengthen the region as a music location and become a start-up centre for music.
The design consists of two elongated wings, which form a building volume through their overlapping point. By positioning the wings in relation to each other, an inner courtyard is formed that enables an exchange with the neighbouring children's and youth centre. The café, which is located on the ground floor, also has the opportunity to use the inner courtyard. The offices of the Stuttgart Region Pop Office and the rehearsal rooms are accessed through an arcade in the inner courtyard.
In order to protect the neighbouring buildings from noise, the rehearsal rooms are oriented towards the inner courtyard and develop a closed façade towards the street.
The work was supervised by Benedikt Bosch, professor by proxy.
