In Normétal, Canada, a sustainable timber frame warehouse is being built, consisting of two staggered structures. The mono-pitched roofs, connected by a load-bearing truss, divide the areas both functionally and architecturally. The frost-free storage area is realised using insulated prefabricated modules, while the second structure contains rooms such as changing rooms, toilets and a north-facing workshop.
The south-facing recreation room with kitchenette and veranda offers a high level of comfort and an ideal orientation for photovoltaic systems. The use of natural and recyclable materials such as wood and hemp ensures a sustainable and resource-conserving construction concept. The clear separation of the utilisation areas ensures thermal and acoustic efficiency as well as a pleasant working atmosphere.
The student research project was supervised by Dipl.-Ing. Walter Huber and Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Stefan Zimmermann.
