At the beginning of January 2024, students from the International Project Management (IPM) Master´s Degree Programme took part in a one-week case study trip to Liverpool, England, under the direction of Professors Prof. Jürgen Marc Volm, Prof. Christine Kappei and Prof. Dr Markus Schmidt. The study centred on examining the new Student Life Building and Sports Building at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in Copperas Hill, Liverpool.
This winter term, from 8 to 12 January 2024, IPM students visited the new Student Life Building and Sports Building at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in Copperas Hill, Liverpool, to conduct the week-long case study. Both buildings officially opened in October 2021. The Student Life Building houses many of LJMU's student support services, such as the Student Advice Centre, Financial Advice Centre, Career Centre, Health Centre, many individual and group study spaces and the digital library services. It is also the base for Liverpool John Moores Students' Union, the student representative body. The building is open around the clock every day. The adjacent sports building has a sports hall with eight pitches, two multi-purpose halls and a fitness centre. A wide range of sports and exercise programmes are offered here all year round.
The case study week began on 8 January with a tour of the city and campus of LJMU. Over the following days, the students conducted insightful interviews with key figures who played a crucial role in the planning and realisation of the two buildings under study. The students were strategically divided into groups to look in depth at the planning and construction processes, user requirements, building operation and sustainability.
Despite their different fields of study, the students exemplified teamwork and supported each other on this exciting journey. The highlight was the delightful experience of interviewing the building's users and making connections between people from all over the world.
The grand finale took place on 12 January at Hardman House with the presentation of the comprehensive analysis of the case study. The results were fruitful and were praised by esteemed guests, professors and colleagues.
The success of this great educational week would not have been possible without the generous support and hospitality of LJMU, Liverpool.
