Overview
Within the project "Digital Twin Mobility and Environment" of the City of Stuttgart, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVI) in the funding line "Digitalisation of municipal transport systems", the HFT Stuttgart is carrying out the scientific support of the project (Work Package 410 of the main project).
With the help of the funding measure "Digital Twin Mobility and Environment", the already existing information basis in the City of Stuttgart will be further improved and raised to a new level. The digital twin focuses on the networking of existing systems (e.g. GDI, GIS) and databases, on closing data gaps and on the provision of data and services in line with requirements. This creates an improved basis for the control and optimisation of urban transport and environmental systems. With this dynamic image of reality, changes or measures can also be tested and simulated in advance.
Research questions
The central challenges to be expected in the project are the complexity of model creation and development, the growth and further development of the digital twin, technological developments and changing framework conditions. These will be addressed in Work Package 410 by developing solutions and standards for a wide range of problems.
Scientific approach and methods
Systematic monitoring of technical developments of the project Digital Twin Mobility and Environment is carried out through continuous validation of the overall system. For this purpose, the technical, technological, formal and social developments are monitored and incorporated in the sense of a continuous improvement process (PDCA cycle) through feedback of needs, opportunities and risks. This scientific support includes reflection on the previous project results and conducting studies on current developments in the context of urban digital twin and mobility, e.g. on developments in standardisation such as DIN, model integration of building model and road space or integration of CityGML and OpenDrive.
