Gold with best distance - Para Athletics World Championships

HFT computer science student Yannis Fischer is shot put world champion

Yannis Fischer made the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris his event! The year's best athlete threw the shot put to 11.43 metres in his fifth attempt and secured the world champion title in the F40 class with a best distance.

"It's completely surreal, I can't believe it yet," said Fischer: "I never thought I could pull off such a blatant distance in the competition. 11.43 meters is absolutely fierce. I came here as number one, but I tried to stay calm in the competition and my strategy worked out."

He said it gave him a special push that he was allowed to lead the German team into the stadium as a flag bearer: "That was a great honor, it was mega nice and motivated me for the competition. I'm just happy and don't know what to say."

Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences is a partner university of elite sports. A corresponding cooperation agreement was signed by the university and the Stuttgart Olympic Training Center, as well as the Stuttgart Student Union and the General German University Sports Association on May 24, 2022.

For students who are active in top-level sports, it is a great challenge to reconcile their athletic careers with their studies. With the agreement, the university committed itself to fulfilling its responsibility towards its top athletes and to supporting them with concrete measures so that their studies do not suffer under the double burden and can be successfully completed.
