Summer School Mobility and Transport at the HFT Stuttgart

The summer school organised by the Mobility and Transport Competence Centre (MoVe) took place for the third time

Traditionally, a varied programme was offered in the first week of May, which new impressions, valuable knowledge in the field of mobility and transport, cultural exchange cultural exchange, new friendships and an unforgettable time for all participants. That was the MoVe Summer School 2024:

The Summer School 2024 took place in the first week of May for the third time with international participation. Organized by the Competence Center for Mobility and Transport (MoVe) of the HFT Stuttgart under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lutz Gaspers, around 30 students worked in groups on various topics for a week and presented their results at the end of the Summer School.

This year, students from our partner university UNB Fredericton from New Brunswick, Canada, also took part. The close contact between professors Trevor Hanson (UNB) and Lutz Gaspers (HFT) has existed for several years. Over a period of ten days, German and Canadian participants had the opportunity to broaden their horizons in various areas of transportation and mobility development. The mixed teams worked in groups on topics such as the modeling of traffic flows, the comparison of administrative structures and transport policy between Canada and Germany, the various approaches to the transport transition and the 15-minute city. The exchange offered not only professional enrichment, but also valuable intercultural and interpersonal experiences.

Of course, the program also included excursions. The Stuttgart 21 construction site was visited on smaller excursions, the NeckarPark with the Mercedes-Benz Museum and MHP Arena were explored and infrastructure projects in Esslingen were viewed. A one-day excursion led to Rottweil and Constance.

Looking back, the participants learnt a lot about mobility and transport in Germany. Many new friendships were formed that will certainly last beyond the summer school. Interesting and varied leisure activities rounded off the trip and ensured fun, relaxation and exciting experiences. We are already looking forward to the next International Summer School Mobility and Transport in May 2025!
