The Geomatics Department has recently become the proud owner of a new surveying drone. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for professional surveying purposes was personally received by the 5-member pilot team of the Geomatics Department at the end of November.
The official handover took place on 28.11.19 during a training event in Plüderhausen. There, in the morning, an approximately 3-hour briefing on the current legal basis as well as on the technology and operation of the new aircraft took place in the meeting room of the city hall. The theoretical part was followed by the practical part including a maiden flight of the new HFT drone of the manufacturer and world market leader DJI. The UAV delegation of the HFT Stuttgart headed by Prof. Dr. Gerrit Austen also included two of his bachelor students who will directly investigate the extended application possibilities of the new drone system as part of their final theses in the current winter semester. Therefore, the handover event also took place in Plüderhausen, more precisely in the area of a landmanagement project Plüderhausen/Urbach.
One of the two bachelor theses aims to demonstrate the benefits and added value of using a UAV with accurate RTK positioning in Landmanagement. Therefore, four representatives of the Office of Surveying and Landmanagement of the Rems-Murr-Kreis District Office took part in this event and completed the circle of UAV interested parties to a total of a dozen participants on this day.
