Laboratory description

The aim of the laboratory BIM-VG is to investigate changes in the working methods of surveying and geoinformatics through digitisation. In addition, corresponding processes are to be made comprehensible for students. Interested companies should have the opportunity to actively participate in the further development of the laboratory.

Vermessung und Geoinformatik BIM 3D-Modell

In detail, the following topics are to be focused on:

  • Creation of models of existing buildings (as built) and cooperation in the construction process (green field)
  • Capture of BIM objects with specific design conditions
  • Efficient data flows between on-site measurements and digital building models
  • Data transfer between CAD, BIM and GIS systems based on different data formats with special consideration of geometries These formats are: Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), City GML, CAD formats
  • Interaction between BIM systems and GIS applications such as network information systems and systems of spatial planning on a technical level as well as development of project processes
Vermessung und Geoinformatik Vorlesung am PC

The laboratory is equipped with 9 computers on which the relevant surveying software as well as geoinformation systems and BIM (Autodesk Revit) is or can be installed. The laboratory is used for project work and block courses within the framework of teaching as well as for final theses.
